Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini is a social institute focusing on social issues and conducts awareness & training programmes to deal with these issues. The site is 15 acre plot located in a place called Uttan which is about 15km away from Mumbai to its northwest. The topography of the site ranged from moderate to steep slopes. It has marshy patches on the west and hillocks on the east.
There are about seven major buildings sitting at different levels in 12 acres part of the site.
The landscape development therefore is to connect all the structures to each other in interesting way and bring in utility of spaces at the same time. The major achievement of this project was to restore the degraded part of the land and create almost a jungle type effect over the years.
The project was also intended to be made use commercially so as to cross subsidise Prabodhini’s social goals or to meet the maintenance cost. In view of that, the project was intensively landscaped to bring in corporate comfort. The care was however taken for not allowing the project to become extravagant where the simplicity would get lost. |
